Your Wedding Day Makeup Timeline: What to Expect

One of the most common questions I get from brides: "How much time do we need for hair and makeup?" Here's my detailed timeline guide.

The Basic Formula

Bride only: 1.5-2 hours

Each additional person: 45-60 minutes Buffer time: 30-45 minutes

Sample Timeline: Bride + 4 Bridesmaids

For a 4:00 PM ceremony:

  • 9:00 AM - Hair & makeup team arrives, setup
  • 9:30 AM - Bridesmaids begin (2 at a time for hair/makeup)
  • 11:30 AM - Bride begins makeup
  • 12:00 PM - Bride hair begins (overlap)
  • 1:00 PM - Bride makeup final touches
  • 1:30 PM - First look / bridal portraits
  • 2:30 PM - Getting dressed, final touches
  • 3:30 PM - Leave for ceremony

Tips for a Smooth Morning

1. Eat breakfast. Low blood sugar = shaky hands and cranky moods.

2. Wear a button-down shirt so you don't mess up your hair when changing.

3. Have your veil and accessories ready for the artist to incorporate.

4. Limit the crowd. Too many people creates chaos.

5. Trust the process. Your artist has done this hundreds of times!

I arrive with:

  • Full professional makeup kit
