10 Things to Know Before Your Makeup Trial
Your makeup trial is your chance to test-drive your wedding day look. Here's how to make it count.
1. Schedule It Right
Book your trial 4-6 weeks before the wedding. This gives time for:
- Adjustments if needed
- A second trial (rare, but possible)
- No stress about timing
2. Come Prepared
Bring:
- Inspiration photos (Pinterest board is perfect)
- Your veil or headpiece
- Photos of your dress
- A white or cream top
- Your skincare routine list
3. Arrive Bare-Faced
Come with:
- Clean, moisturized skin
- No foundation or concealer
- Your regular brows (no recent waxing)
- Normal skincare routine that morning
4. Be Honest
Tell your artist:
- What you normally wear (or don't)
- Features you love/want to enhance
- Features you're self-conscious about
- Any allergies or sensitivities
5. Speak Up
During the trial, communicate:
- "Can we try a bit more/less here?"
- "I usually wear my eyeliner like..."
- "This feels too heavy/light for me"
No judgment—this is what trials are for!
6. Take Photos
Take photos in:
- Natural light
- Flash photography
- Outdoor lighting
- Different angles
This shows how makeup will photograph on your day.
7. Live With It
Don't wash it off immediately! Wear your trial makeup for several hours to see:
- How it wears
- How it transfers
- If anything fades or creases
- If you still love it after the "wow" fades
8. Take Notes
Write down:
- What you loved
- What needs adjusting
- Products you particularly liked
- Any concerns
9. Timeline Check
Use trial time to confirm:
- Morning timeline
- Location details
- Bridesmaid/family makeup needs
- Touch-up kit contents
10. Trust the Process
Your artist is a professional. If something looks different than expected, give feedback, but also trust their expertise. We see faces in photography lighting every day—we know what works!
